Broken Record Burns: "Disappointed and disgusted"...again. "Spent long ago"...again.

Max Burns is always eager to be “disappointed and disgusted” in his political donors, but never quick to do what’s right – immediately donate his dirty money contributions to charity.

Here’s what Max Burns had to say to the Associated Press yesterday about the contributions he’s received from ex-Congressman Mark Foley:

Burns said he couldn't donate the money immediately because it was "spent long ago."

"I'm so disappointed and disgusted with Mark Foley's actions, I intend to raise an equal amount of money and donate it to a worthy charity to demonstrate my contempt for what he has done to these young boys," Burns said in statement.

Sound familiar? It’s just what Max told the Savannah Morning News about the dirty money he got from ex-Congressmen/confessed criminals Bob Ney and Duke Cunningham:

Burns responded by noting, as he has before, that the contributions were for previous campaigns and were spent long ago. "However," he added, "I'm so disappointed and disgusted with Duke Cunningham and Bob Ney for betraying the public's trust, that I'm considering raising the equal amount of money (and) donating it to charity.

“Disappointed and Disgusted”
There’s a clear pattern of foot dragging here: Max Burns is always eager to be “disappointed and disgusted” in his political donors, but never quick to do what’s right – immediately donate his dirty money contributions to charity. Max is not being sincere. He shouldn't have to be asked to donate that money – he should have already done so.

“Spent Long Ago”
Max says that all the dirty money contributions in question were “spent long ago.” Yet, Max had $733,393.03 in the bank at the time of his last FEC filing (06/28/2006). And since then, the President raised Max an additional $375,000 at a fundraiser here in Savannah.

How can Max say he’s already spent the money when he’s currently sitting on at least that much in his campaign bank account?

Over the years, Max’s campaign was helped by these dirty money donations, and now his campaign should immediately make things right.

That’s what everyone else is doing – everyone except for Max.

Of the other political candidates & office holders who have already given back or donated money they received from Foley, some have quickly returned donations from as far back as 1998 (AP):

“Among Republicans disposing of Foley money were Virginia Sen. George Allen, who plans to give the $2,000 his campaign received to a charitable cause, and Rep. Heather Wilson of New Mexico, who plans to give away $8,000 she received between 1998 and 2002.”

Other candidates everywhere are holding themselves to a higher standard, while Max only offers Georgia’s 12th District some half-baked excuse about needing to raise more money because he no longer has the original money.

If other candidates think it’s important enough for their current campaign to immediately disgorge themselves of any and all dirty money they got in the past, so should Max Burns.
